Brisbane – Knowledge City, Connected City: A Smart City Master PlanThe Queensland Government is preparing a Smart City Master Plan for Brisbane city to ensure the State’s capital is positioned for a smart and sustainable future in a competitive and connected global environment. The Smart City Master Plan is a strategic plan to align land use, transport and infrastructure with key knowledge and cultural precincts in Brisbane city. The Terms of Reference for the Smart City Master Plan is currently being developed. A draft Plan is intended to be available for public consultation in mid 2009 with the final Smart City Master Plan released in 2010. The preparation of the Smart City Master Plan will be linked prepared in parallel with the formal review of the South East Queensland Regional Plan to ensure it is consistent with regional policies and strategies, however, the timeframes do not align. Smart CitiesThe Smart City Master Plan is a government initiative in response to the Smart Cities: rethinking the city centre report by the Smart State Council . The Smart Cities: rethinking the city centre report presents a vision for planning Brisbane as a centrepiece for the Smart State. It explores an holistic method of planning the city centre around existing creative, cultural, education and research precincts, and aims to improve the connections across the city centre for the Brisbane community.
