| Implementation Regulation Consultation Paper |
|
Consultation period closed 5pm Thursday 1 November 2007 On 10 August 2007 the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007 (LGRIA) was enacted. The LGRIA amended the Local Government Act 1993 (LGA) to put in place arrangements for the structural reform of Queensland local governments. Section 159YQ provides for the making of implementation regulations to support the transition of existing local governments’ arrangements to the new structural arrangements. An implementation regulation is currently being drafted. It will set out generic provisions to transition regulatory and administrative arrangements to new local governments at changeover day. The provisions will apply unless specific provision is made in a further regulation for a particular circumstance or new council. This consultation paper sets out proposals to transition regulatory and administrative arrangements of existing councils to the new councils that will be in place following the 2008 elections. While most of the proposals are generic and will apply to all councils, it is recognised the requirements may need to be varied in specific amalgamations. Read the consultation paperYou are invited to comment on the proposed transition approach. The Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation welcomes your feedback and invites submissions to this consultation paper. Your feedback will help ensure implementation regulations are robust, pragmatic and will address unique circumstances where they arise. A consultation paper has been prepared for your comment.
