South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program

The South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program 2008–2026 outlines the government's infrastructure priorities for the South East Queensland (SEQ) region to support the SEQ Regional Plan. It represents a long-term commitment to infrastructure delivery in SEQ.

The SEQ Infrastructure Plan was first released in 2005 and is updated annually to reflect and align with the latest planning and budget commitments. It sets timeframes and budgets to ensure infrastructure is delivered to support the region’s growth.

The 2008 edition of the plan details around 300 identifiable projects, with an investment of just over $107 billion (inclusive of federal government contributions and other revenue sources):

  • $83.5 billion in road, rail and public transport
  • $8 billion in water
  • $3.5 billion in energy networks
  • $12 billion in social and community infrastructure.

Delivering the program

To date, the government has invested more than $13 billion in the program - completing around 50 projects, including major projects such as the Tugun Bypass and Inner Northern Busway - both ahead of schedule.

Around 90 projects are currently underway including work on the $1.88 billion Gateway Upgrade Project and the Darra to Springfield transport corridor, including $872 million for the Springfield passenger rail line.

Mapping the market

To assist industry in delivering the SEQ infrastructure program, Infrastructure Program Management monitors implementation of the program and tracks project milestones. This helps sequence the program of infrastructure work to ensure there is a continuous flow of projects to the market. This not only assists in making better use of the skilled labour force, but also helps manage the impacts on industry and the community, while also ensuring the value for money.

Aside from the yearly update of the SEQ Infrastructure Plan and Program, Infrastructure Program Management produces two pipelines which indicate when projects are coming to procurement and to construction.

The office also produces SEQuence – a community newsletter that outlines key progress on the SEQ Infrastructure Plan and Program.
