Rural precincts

The South East Queensland (SEQ) Regional Plan supports the establishment of rural precincts to encourage more detailed rural planning within the regional landscape and rural production area and investigation areas.

Rural precincts allow local governments to modify the effects of the SEQ Regional Plan’s regulatory provisions - to protect and promote rural and regional landscape values.

If a local government chooses to establish a rural precinct, it is required to prepare a plan detailing the planning intent for the precinct, and proposed planning scheme amendments to establish and manage the precinct.

Implementation guideline 6 - Rural Precinct Guidelines sets out the process for preparing the plan and establishing rural precincts.

The Department of Infrastructure and Planning is working with a number of SEQ local governments to establish rural precincts centred around rural tourism, agribusiness and horticulture.
