Under the Integrated Planning Act 1997 (IPA), local governments are required to prepare a planning scheme. Under the Act, the department is required to keep a copy of these planning schemes for inspection.
Planning schemes are the main planning documents used to manage future growth and development throughout Queensland. They seek to achieve:
ecological sustainability through coordinated planning
management of development and its effects on the environment.
