| Implementation and monitoring |

State and local governments are responsible for adopting the South East Queensland (SEQ) Regional Plan policies and in their planning and development initiatives. As well as adopting the plan’s policies, each local council is required to amend its planning scheme to align with the SEQ Regional Plan. Implementation guidelines to assist local councils and state agencies implement the SEQ Regional Plan are available. The implementation of the plan may also involve community and industry groups, particularly at the subregional and local levels. SEQ is subject to changes in population growth, demographics, housing demands and land development activity. These will be monitored and reviewed annually. A State of the Region Report is produced regularly to inform reviews of the SEQ Regional Plan and provide an assessment of the region's progress towards sustainability. The SEQ Regional Plan 2005 is currently under review. Consultation on the draft SEQ Regional Plan has closed. After a review of the submissions, an updated South East Queensland Regional Plan 2009–2031 will be issued in July 2009.
