Status
EIS active

i-METT Queensland Group Pty Ltd (i-METT) proposes to redevelop about 600 hectares of rural land into a master planned development consisting of an integrated motorsport, education, tourism and technology precinct at Gilberton, near Ormeau in Gold Coast City.

i-METT is a multifunctional project with a mix of facilities and technologies including an international standard motorsport facility, hotel, theme park, television and technology facility, educational institute and museum.  The project will also consider community based motorsport opportunities.

The $650 million project will create about 2000 jobs during the five year construction period and up to 5000 jobs when the precinct is fully operational.

Environmental Impact Statement process

The i-METT proposal was declared a 'significant project' by the Coordinator-General on 15 February 2008. This requires the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project pursuant to the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971. The declaration recognises that the project requires the centralised coordination and intense scrutiny only available through the significant project process.
