Queensland is currently implementing the largest infrastructure program in its history with $17 billion being spent across the state in 2008-2009. To assist agencies deliver projects to time, budget and quality constraints, the Queensland Government is looking to implement the internationally recognised Office of Government Commerce (OGC) Gateway™ Process. Gateway ProcessThe OGC Gateway™ Process was developed by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) in the United Kingdom. The OGC Gateway™ Process is a series of program/project reviews carried out at key decision points by a small team of experienced people, independent of the program/project team. The reviews are undertaken on behalf of the project owner who owns the review report. The aim of the review is to help Project Owners ensure their investment is well spent, meets strategic objectives and achieves value-for-money outcomes. The UK Government has estimated cost savings attributable to the OGC Gateway™ Process in 2005-06 of over GBP£1 billion. The success of OGC Gateway™ Process has resulted in it being adopted by the Victorian, New South Wales, and federal governments. The Gateway Process in QueenslandQueensland Gateway will assist agencies to deliver programs/projects to time, budget and quality constraints and thereby increase government confidence in its investment. It assists project owners by identifying risks and issues that could impact on their program/project and proposes ways they can be mitigated or overcome. The Department of Infrastructure and Planning is implementing Queensland Gateway throughout 2008-2009. Further informationQueensland Gateway is initially being driven by Program Management within the Department of Infrastructure and Planning. Program Management will develop the Queensland Gateway Process and establish the Gateway Unit. To find out more about the Gateway Review Process in other jurisdictions see:
