| Framework for Queensland mining towns |
|
Mining is one of the state's greatest economic contributors. The industry brings enormous commerce and employment but also creates a unique set of challenges for local communities. To help ensure that Queensland towns have a strong influence over what happens in their local communities, the department has developed the Sustainable Futures Framework for Queensland Mining Towns. The framework will support local governments, state agencies, mining companies and communities to undertake a process to develop strategies to address the impacts of the 'boom and bust' cycles traditionally associated with the mining industry. Key objectiveTo protect the social, economic and environmental values and economic growth of Queensland's mining communities, through collaboration between state and local governments, the mining industry and the community, to build a productive mining industry built on sustainable, vibrant Queensland communities.
