Freedom of information

New legislation replacing the Freedom of Information Act 1992 came into effect on 1 July 2009, namely:


The Right to Information reforms aim to make more information available, provide equal access to information across all sectors of the community, and provide appropriate protection for individuals' privacy.

Freedom of Information applications

Any current applications made under the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (the FOI Act) prior to the commencement of the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) will continue to be processed by the department under the FOI Act

Information applications after 1 July 2009

Any applications for access to documents that are received by the department after 1 July 2009 will be processed under the RTI Act or the Information Privacy Act 2009.
