High-speed, reliable communication and technology infrastructure is vital to Queensland’s economic and social prosperity. The Department of Infrastructure and Planning is leading the planning and rollout of telecommunications infrastructure for the Queensland Government. Access to advanced, state-of-the-art information technology and communications infrastructure is fast becoming a defining factor for the success of Queensland businesses and industry in the global marketplace. Delivery of this infrastructure will benefit the Queensland community and contribute to the economic development of the state. The Wotif web-based travel reservation company based in Queensland is one of the largest in the southern hemisphere. It exemplifies the convergence of commerce and contemporary telecommunications. The department is ensuring that new schools such as Stretton College are planned and delivered with state-of-the-art broadband internet capability. The department is delivering a holistic approach to infrastructure delivery, integrating new telecommunications links with new pipelines and other infrastructure. A centrepiece in the delivery of high-speed telecommunications for Queensland is Project en@ble, which is helping to reduce barriers to the rollout of telecommunications infrastructure in Queensland.
