Statewide Water program of works

In July 2007 the Queensland Government announced proponents to progress delivery of all Statewide Water Policy regional water infrastructure projects with the exception of the Burdekin to South East Queensland Pipeline investigations, which are being progressed by the Department of Natural Resources and Water.

The regional water infrastructure projects are all subject to investigation and have not yet been given approval to proceed to construction. Works to be completed by proponents include:

  • geo-technical investigations
  • cultural heritage studies
  • environmental impact studies
  • land surveys and valuation
  • demand assessment
  • economic evaluation, leading to development of a business case for each project.

Feasibility investigations for the Regional Water Infrastructure Projects are being overseen by the Water Infrastructure Project Board through a 'program of works' for the projects approved under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971.

The program of works includes a list of the investigation works to be undertaken by the project proponents. These works include all necessary studies and investigations up to securing approvals and development of a business case for each project. The program of works also specifies the proponents for each project, time frames for delivery, reporting requirements and budgetary allocations.

The program of works covers the following projects: Lower Fitzroy Infrastructure (Rookwood Weir and Eden Bann Weir Raising), Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline, Connors River Dam and Pipelines, Nathan Dam, Kinchant Dam Raising, Water for Bowen, Water for Proserpine and Nullinga Dam. The Yeppoon Pipeline has been excluded from the program of works as it is already under construction. The Burdekin to South East Queensland Pipeline has also been excluded as the investigations are preliminary only at this stage.
