The Department of Infrastructure and Planning plays a strong role in the strategic planning, coordination, and provision of infrastructure to support the economic development of regional Queensland. The department is responsible for developing the state development areas established at Gladstone and Townsville as locations for value adding minerals processing. Additionally, the Department of Infrastructure and Planning is active in coordinating, planning and delivering industrial land, water, energy and transport infrastructure to support Queensland’s export industries, including coal, agriculture and base minerals.
