Agriculture and environment

Agriculture has traditionally been a cornerstone of the Queensland economy, alongside mining and tourism. Ongoing investment in agricultural infrastructure is vital in Queensland’s food and fibre industries to increase productivity, market growth, adaptability and sustainability. Investment in agricultural infrastructure ranges from new research and development programs and facilities to investment in innovative in agricultural ventures.

Consistent with sustainable agricultural practice is environmental protection. Investment in agricultural infrastructure is required to ensure sustainable water and land management and agricultural practices that are environmentally responsible and profitable. An example of an innovative agriculture project is the proposed development of a fertiliser plant near Roma.
