Environmental Assessment and Public Consultation carried out in accordance with the Environmental Assessment and Public Consultation Guidelines ( 780 KB) are considered to be adequate.

The guidelines include a checklist identifying relevant matters for the assessment of environmental effects and also sources of advice or information (schedule 2).

The guidelines recognise similar, but alternative, environmental assessment and consultation processes that state public sector entities may undertake in place of the generalised procedures in the guidelines (refer to schedule 5 and schedule 6).

The IPA sets out other processes that represent adequate environmental assessment and public consultation for designating land by a Minister including an environmental impact statement (EIS) under either the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971, section 35 or the Environmental Protection Act 1994, chapter 3, part 1.

The processes listed in the IPA are not exhaustive. The Minister may choose to be satisfied that adequate environmental assessment and public consultation for designation has been undertaken in some other way.
