The State Government in consultation with the people of Torres Strait is reviewing how local government in the 17 Torres Strait Island Councils should operate.

Local government is all about the local area and local community - this is a chance for the people of the Torres Strait to have input into how they think their local community should be governed.

The Green Paper is a discussion paper which proposes options for developing a new model of community government that will ensure effective, accountable and responsive local government, with respect to the distinctive culture and history of the Torres Strait region and unique needs of Island communities.
