Priority infrastructure plans

All new development should be supplied with the essential services of water, sewerage, stormwater, roads and community facilities such as parks.

Priority infrastructure plans prepared by local governments ensure this essential infrastructure is planned, charged for and delivered at an affordable cost to support Queensland's economic and social growth. Priority infrastructure plans are a key element of the Queensland Government's Housing Affordability Strategy and the planning reform agenda, planning for a prosperous Queensland.

Priority infrastructure plans support the government's vision for Queensland's future - Towards Q2 Tomorrow's Queensland - by making sure infrastructure is planned, funded and provided for anticipated growth.

Queensland Competition Authority to review infrastructure charges

It’s important that Queenslanders paying their fair share for new development can count on a robust and accountable system for funding infrastructure in their community. The department and other state agencies review local government priority infrastructure plans to make sure that the planning of this infrastructure is rigorous. The Queensland Competition Authority reviews local government infrastructure charges to make sure they are consistent with the IPA guidelines for infrastructure charging.

Template for slower-growing local governments

The department has developed a priority infrastructure plan template for slower-growing local governments that intend to adopt the regulated infrastructure charges schedule for some or all of their local government area. The template is also useful for councils that do not intend to levy development charges at all.
