Population trends and forecasts

Information on population trends is released in a number of formats including population reports containing detailed analysis of trends over time, quarterly reports on the latest trends, and summary fact sheets for Queensland's local government areas and planning regions.  Queensland's future population report and supporting documents for projected population to 2031 are now available.

Population updates

Population updates are brief reports that presents analysis and commentary of recent population change in Queensland and analyses the change in the Australian context. They are published to coincide with new data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. 

Housing trends

Information on housing trends is released in a number of formats including quarterly housing updates on state-level trends, and regional and local dwelling approvals, summary fact sheets for Queensland's local government areas and planning regions, and detailed reports on projected growth in households across the state.

Research

The department undertakes research and analysis relating to population and demography, housing, social statistics, residential activity and urban land supply. The department has staff with expertise in statistical analysis, demographic analysis, population forecasting and GIS analysis and programming.
