Land access and impacts

There is significant interest in the development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector in Queensland based on processing coal seam gas (CSG). As the CSG-LNG sector presents both opportunities and challenges, the Queensland Government is conducting a review to help shape its policy response.

What rights do I have in relation to allowing access to my property?

The Queensland Government recognises landowners or occupiers may be presented with requests for access to their land for exploration or production activities.

This is due to a significant increase in exploration in Queensland, particularly for coal seam gas. This exploration is likely to be further stimulated by the proposed LNG projects that will require a large quantity of CSG.

Where can I find out more information?

The Department of Mines and Energy has developed a series of information sheets to assist landowners or occupiers to understand their rights and obligations with regard to entry provisions and compensation by petroleum/coal seam gas and explorers and producers and mineral and coal explorers.

These can be accessed at: www.dme.qld.gov.au/mines/land_owner_occupier_information.cfm
