Commercial and Consumer Tribunal

The tribunal is an independent decision making body for resolving consumer and industry related disputes and reviewing administrative decisions fairly, quickly, economically and informally.

It also reviews administrative decisions and conducts disciplinary proceedings. The tribunal’s jurisdiction includes architects, building and construction industry adjudicators, building, building certifier reviews, disability services, engineers, liquor, manufactured homes, property agents and motor dealers, plumbers and drainers, residential services accreditation, retirement villages and tourism services.

Planning and Environment Court

Appeals to the court can be made about various matters including:

  • a development approval, including conditions or an infrastructure charges notice
  • decisions on requests to extend the relevant period for an approval
  • decisions on requests to change or cancel a condition on a development approval
  • the giving of an enforcement notice
  • decisions on compensation claims.

Building Services Authority

The Building Services Authority regulates the building industry through the licensing of contractors, educating consumers about their rights and obligations and handling disputes fairly and equitably.

It investigates offences against the Queensland Building Services Authority Act 1991 and the Domestic Building Contracts Act 2000.

Complaints investigated include:

  • unlawful building work
  • improper use of a licence
  • breaches of the Domestic Building Contracts Act 2000
  • breaches related to subcontracts and commercial contracts
  • home warranty insurance
  • advertising offences
  • other offences
  • monies owed
  • judgement debts.
